The Beam Engine at Loughborough University

According to George Watkins (Stationary Steam Engines of Great Britain Vol 5 Landmark Press) the engine was originally installed near the Lion Brewery in Belvedere Road and later (1853) moved to Thames Ditton where it was finally used to drive a centrifugal pump for filter bed drainage. It was presented to Loughborough College (now Loughborough University) Engineering Faculty in 1934 by the Metropolitan Water Board. The Cornish boiler was one of two latterly used to steam it.
