Keathbank Mill Visitor Centre

Scotland's largest preserved Mill Engine together with a giant waterwheel, gauge O railway , diesel generator etc.. The engine is a horizontal single cylinder by James Carmichael & Co of Dundee and dates from 1862. Curiously, most of the websites relating to the visitor centre appear to believe that it is a Beam Engine which it manifestly is not.

According to George Watkins the cylinder was probably renewed by Carmichaels about 1900 and the engine may well be by a different builder and may be as early as 1840. See Stationary Steam Engines of Great Britain Vol 2 (Landmark Press)

As of March 2004 the Keathbank Mill Visitor Centre is closed. Presumably the victim of local government economies.
